Simi's Before & After + Portraits

Before and After
Simi wanted a makeup look inspired by Aishwarya Rai for her photo session. I also did her hair too - we agreed that she would do her own her but then I arrived earlier than expected (my bad! I thought it would be much further+traffic!) so I did her hair...which took much longer than I anticipated~ ^^||....Simi was stressed out from exams and was breaking out. She requested that I photo shop out her scars~ it was a time investment and a challenge. As a result I learned new techniques~ ^^v yay for me.
Before and After
Simi says:
"It was an absolute pleasure working with Liz. She is very charismatic and I felt extremely comfortable shooting with her. I had a clear idea of the types of moods and poses I wanted her to capture, and Liz found my best angles and captured everything artistically.

She is also a very skilled makeup artist, and used exclusive products purchased from Japan. She was patient and responsive to my makeup requests, and gave me better advice about my acne-prone skin than my dermatologist. She was punctual and never complained.

I love the finished products! Her touch ups and color schemes make me look like a character from a fairytale.

-Simi
Simi has such gorgeous eyes~ and with her hair length, it reminded me of the gal in Boticelli's "Birth of Venus"~! Enjoy three of my favorite from the set, and you can see a few more in my Portraits gallery!

Alex's Before & After + Portraits

Before and After
Alex was on her way to a special event - hot date! (well, after the portrait session of course).

Alex says:
When I went for my appointment with Elizabeth Chang, I knew from the way that she herself looked that I was going to come out looking like a diva. She was both thorough and efficient, tactful and fun, and best of all, both traditional and a visionary. I've had my make-up done at high-end salons and in department stores, but the look that I had by Skyla Arts went above and beyond anything I'd ever experienced. I had a wonderful date the night after Elizabeth Chang made me up, and my date was proud to be with the most beautiful woman in the room. I strongly recommend the services of Elizabeth Chang at Skyla Arts. If you're looking for a beautiful, dramatic look by a gifted professional, then Skyla Arts is the place for you. Thank you, Liz!!!

P.S. THE KITTEN WAS TOOOOO CUTE!!!
-Alexandria Hicks, veteran make-up wearer
Alex works at an animal shelter and the scar on her hand was from a dog at her workplace! Skyla (my kitten) loved Alex's attention and was happy to cameo in the session! Enjoy three of my favorite from the set, and you can see a few more in my Portraits gallery!

Pinup x Glamorous Makeup

So I originally wanted to do a video tutorial...but I think I'm motion-picture-challenged...My computer cannot detect my camcorder, and perhaps I need to reset something because my iSight is not being detected by my iMovie! Gaaah!!! So for now, I'll just have this...a photo and um...the list of the products I used and a little description if needed. I don't know why I tilted my head so frequently~ I just did! I guess I was in a tilt-y mood! ^^|| The top left photo is natural light. Top right is flash, bottom left is flash+tungsten, and bottom right is no flash+tungsten, but I adjusted the colors to make it look like what it would look like without the warm temperature. PLEASE ignore my eyebrows~ yes Stop looking at them now!!!~ it is my eyebrow boo-boo day~^^||

Primer, Foundation, Powder
Lorac Aquaprime
Kevin Beautymaker Aqua Color Controller (Nude)
For T-zone, cheekbones only. This product has a pearl shimmer to it that you put underneath your foundation
Kevin Beautymaker Beautymaker Aqua Light Creamy Foundation in shade #1
Gives you a dewy finish. Good for combination skin
MUFE #3 Camouflage Cream Palette
Lisa Watier Portfolio
Shu Uemura Face Powder Matte (colorless)
Translucent loose powder to set the foundation and concealer

Brow
Benefit Brow zings, Dark & Light
Used darker shade on the ends, and lighter shade at the beginning of the brow for a more natural look - although I didn't really do my brows really well that day~ oops...sorry!!!

Eyeshadow
Splash Eyesparkle -Pineapple Delight
Used as base color.
Dior 5 Couleurs - 030 Incognito
Dior 5 Couleurs - 390 Mystic Jade
Layered the neutral and darker brown colors , contoured the eye~ it actually looks smokier in real life, but I am limited to using my point and shoot to take these photos~ ^^

Eyeliner
MAC Fluidline - Graphic Brown
Since the lipcolor was going to be very loud, I chose a bronze/brown cream liner. I applied it with Smashbox 21 (bent eyeliner brush) and winged it out into a cat eye.

Lips
MAC Lip Pencil in REDD
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick 170 ALARM

Contour & Blush & Highlight
MAC mineralized Skin Finish DARK
Used this shade to contour cheeks.
MAC Blush Peaches
MAC Pigment - Vanilla
Applied on brow-bone and cheek bone for dramatic highlights. I didn't use it on my nose~ the highlight is purely the pearl primer~ ^^

Michelle's Before & After + Portrait/Shopping Trip

Pretty Michelle initially came for a short make-up lesson~ at first she wanted a natural look, but once she saw my turquoise eye shadows, she decided to go with a dramatic, glamorous look akin to a porcelain doll! I tried my best~ ^^ and she selected the most dramatic pair of false lashes I got~ it was lots of fun!

After our first meeting, I also accompanied her for a makeup shopping trip! Michelle was super organized! She did her research online and I told her: "That's exactly what I would do!!!" and she was able to get the products she had hoped to get and remained within her budget! Fabulous!

Michelle says:
"My experience with Liz was fantastic! Of course I felt very pretty after being made up but I also learned a lot. Not only things like new products but also new ideas for applying things like eye shadow, lipstick and even foundation. I'm a pretty no- fuss girl when it comes to doing my own make up, so it was nice to see myself all done up properly and I learned several tricks to add to my daily routine. So on one hand the make up advice is worth the time, but seeing many of Liz's photos and seeing a friend's photos, she is also a very talented photographer and will really work to make a beautiful picture of you. Unlike other photography services, Liz doesn't try to pose you too much or come to set with a specific idea of what she wants, instead she works to create natural shots which really show who you are (all be it with much better make up!). Great girl and fantastic service, would recommend to anyone but especially those who are nervous about getting a stagey photo or not feeling like themselves in the make up."

-Michelle

I took this portrait and gave it to Michelle as a gift! I also sent her a version of this photo that made her skin looked very porcelain~~! I hope she liked it!

Kelly's Before & After + Portraits

Before and After
This makeup & photography session with Kelly happened right after K & J's couple's shoot! So..I got backed up and couldn't work on it until recently! So sorry Kelly!~! Kelly chose the "Single basic natural head shots and portraits Option B with Makeup Application"~ we were going for the pretty Korean celebrity look!

She says:
"Skyla Arts made me feel "comfortable" with the occasion. Liz was great with her brushes. I almost fell sleep! She was accommodating and made sure she understood the look I was going after, and that it was "right". And she did! I had a great time at the party that evening, and loved the more "natural" feel to the job she did! I also loved talking to her. She was really sweet, and seemed to have a genuine interest in simply talking to me. =)

Thank you Liz!"

Testimonials

This post will be a compilation of testimonials my clients write for me. The latest reviews will be on the top!

Liz did my makeup for our wedding and she made me look my best on our special day. The products that she used were ALL great quality and the makeup stayed on for more than 10 hours. I didn't even need to do a retouch! It probably would've stayed longer if I didn't decide to remove it before going to bed! I never got that "cake" look on my face. I loved what she did with my eyes... I wish I could have that stay on forever!

Being Asian, it's hard to find somebody who knows how to work on Asian features.. Especially the eyes. When I saw Liz's website, I felt that she was the one... So I e-mailed her and asked if she could do a last minute trial makeup. The following day, I came to her place and it didn't take me long to feel comfortable with her. She's very friendly and easy-going.

While we were finishing up and I was admiring what she did with my eyes, a crazy incident happened... The building right next to her apartment caught on fire and there was black smoke everywhere! We panicked but I realized one of us had to stay calm so I did. Plus, I had a pre-wedding photo shoot in about an hour and I didn't want to ruin my makeup! Hehe! We ran outside and stayed at the manager's unit, trying to calm each other down. The firefighters came and contained the fire. When it was safe to come down, she took me back to her place and did a retouch on me. Despite that very scary event, she managed to collect herself and finish off with a makeup that made me look like that incident didn't stress me out. She was very professional and she kept apologizing to me... I told her it was definitely not her fault and that she was doing a wonderful job... I remember telling her "Well, at least this is very memorable for both of us" and we just laughed it off. I felt bad leaving her right away but I had a photo shoot to catch. The pre-wedding pictures turned out really great, you couldn't tell that I was scared for my life few hours prior to the photo shoot!

During the wedding day, I had a few minor problems that morning and was running late for my hair and makeup session. Liz was very nice and patient... She waited for me at the hotel and I felt so bad for making her wait. When we got to the hotel, she immediately went straight to doing her stuff and as expected, she did an amazing job on my makeup. She did my stepmom and my mother-in-law but because we were running late on schedule, they rushed her into getting the makeup done. I had to leave and I didn't know about this until my friends told me few days later. I felt so bad. They didn't really have to do that because I wasn't going to start with the wedding without the mothers. Anyway, she made the moms look young and pretty! I loved their makeup too, even though she had to do it in a rush. Sorry Liz.

Overall, I would say she has all the great qualities to be a successful makeup artist. She deserves the 5.0 star rating that I gave her. Trust me. She does. I wish she didn't have to move up North, I wouldn't have mind if I had to pay a few extra bucks to get my makeup done with her for any other special occasions.

-Jeah

"It was such a great pleasure to work with Liz. Not only was she friendly, kind, and fun, she was also skillful and talented! Even though I have mild acne scars, she was able to make my skin flawless. I felt so pretty after being made up. I received many compliments from my coworkers!I truly enjoyed working with her. I highly recommend Skyla Arts for you want to look and feel beautiful."

Thank you for your time this morning, you did an amazing job! The photos turned out great! I'll send some over if you want/need them for your website when I get them.
Photographer commented on the nice eye shadow colors today, so we picked the right one after all ;) Thanks again.

Liz did an amazing job on my make-up. I have mild to moderate acne and acne scars, and she was able to make my skin look flawless without it looking cakey. She was also very responsive to my concerns about the type of make up I wanted. I was also very pleased with the pictures she took at our "engagement shoot". She's very easy going and let us choose what kinds of pictures we wanted to take. She also did a great job with editing the photos. I would highly recommend her services!

- Kiran

Best make-up artist I've ever had! She listens to your preferences and adapts her make-up to your comfort level, dress colors, and event type. The results were amazing, the make up was extremely comfortable and lasted all day, and I looked great in all the photos the photographers took! In addition I received so many compliments for the make up alone (I think even more so than my dress!). Definitely highly recommended!

- A

When I first met Liz in 2007, she was already an excellent photographer and makeup artist. I had no idea on make up nor on photography. In the beginning, I was a little stunned by the makeup she applied on my face because I was not used to it at all. I thought "would it be too much?" I have never put on eye liner... But when the pictures came out, it was fabulous. I just can't believe that was me!!! She demonstrated sensitivity when I was worried if the makeup would be "too heavy". She reassured me with confidence. She also allowed me to play with the colors so as to make sure I was comfortable with them. With her artistic sense and professional attitude, I enjoy working with her. She is definitely a caring beauty expert! I highly recommand her!
